A Dhaka court on Monday (17 June) issued a travel ban on 15 individuals, including prominent cricketer and former MP Shakib Al Hasan, in connection with an ongoing anti-corruption investigation.
Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib of the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judges Court passed the order following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The ban also covers 14 others, including government officials and business figures, all accused of embezzling hundreds of crores of taka through alleged irregularities, unauthorised investments, and the accumulation of illegal assets.
The charges reportedly involve violations of government financial regulations and stock market laws. Among those named are Abul Khair, a deputy registrar at the Department of Cooperatives, and several others including Kazi Sadia Hasan, Abul Kalam Madbor, and Zahed Kamal.
Shakib, who won a parliamentary seat from Magura in the 2024 general elections under the ruling Awami League banner, is currently abroad and has not returned to Bangladesh since the fall of the government in August.
Earlier this year, on 19 January, a separate court issued an arrest warrant against him in a cheque fraud case.
