Import and export operations across Bangladesh’s customs houses and stations will remain functional on a limited scale during the Durga Puja holidays, according to a directive from the National Board of Revenue (NBR) today.

The move comes as part of the government’s effort to ensure uninterrupted trade flows during the major religious festival. Public holidays for Durga Puja fall on October 1–2, when most government offices, schools and institutions will remain closed.

The NBR directive instructed customs authorities nationwide to take necessary measures to keep cross-border trade activities operational during the two-day holiday period. Copies of the order have also been sent to government offices and trade bodies.

Officials said the decision will help prevent bottlenecks at land ports and keep essential imports and exports moving smoothly. Customs services will operate in a reduced capacity, with priority given to urgent and perishable shipments.

Customs offices previously followed a similar arrangement during Eid holidays earlier this year, when import-export activities continued on a partial basis to avoid disruption in trade.

Trade analysts welcomed the move, saying that even limited operations during national holidays play a vital role in sustaining supply chains and keeping economic activities stable.
