During a special screening of the film Dagi in Dhaka last night, a group of artists, producers, and journalists held a one-minute moment of silence to protest Israeli atrocities in Palestine.

At a modern auditorium in Dhaka, the special screening of Dagi became a platform for a silent protest against the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Organized as part of the “Global Strike” campaign called on April 7, the event saw prominent figures from the creative community join in a unified moment of silence.

Among the participants were film producers from SVAF Alpha i Entertainment Limited, including Chairman Mahendra Soni and Managing Director Shahriar Shakil, as well as co-producer and CEO of Charoki, Redowan Roni, producer Shahid Shahin, and journalist-literati Sajjad Sharif and Anisul Haq. Celebrated actors like Tarik Anam Khan, Shahiduzzaman Selim, and Afra Nischa, alongside musicians such as Sajid Sarkar and Masha Islam, lent their support to the protest during the screening.

After the minute of silence, speakers addressed the gathering. Director Shahid Shahin and other film officials expressed their deep condemnation of the violence in Gaza. “Dagi is a film about scars in the heart; Afra Nischa’s portrayal is unique and irreplaceable,” remarked one speaker, while another noted the perfect integration of song with storytelling, which resonated strongly with audiences.

Producers Shaharin Akhtar Sumi and filmmaker Mehedi Hasan Hridoy were also present, praising the film for its powerful narrative and production quality. The screening, now in its fourth edition at various Dhaka venues including Cineplex, continues to draw large audiences during the Eid festivities, with positive feedback inspiring further projects.

The organizers, led by BNP-affiliated groups and supported by cultural activists, affirmed their solidarity with the Palestinian cause and called for ongoing awareness and protest against Israeli atrocities. They announced that additional new initiatives would be launched during the special screening to amplify their message.
