A gang of robbers looted cash, gold jewelry, and valuables from passengers on a moving bus in broad daylight in Savar.
The incident occurred around 2 PM on Sunday (March 2) on a Rajdhani Paribahan bus traveling along the Dhaka-Aricha highway between Radio Colony and Bank Town.
According to passenger Nazmul Hasan Avi, two men, posing as regular passengers, attempted to disembark near Radio Colony but instead stopped the bus to allow more accomplices to board. Armed with sharp weapons, the group of 6-7 robbers held 20-25 passengers hostage and looted their belongings before fleeing at Bank Town. Avi later reported the incident to the police by calling 999.
Savar Highway Police OC Saugatul Alam confirmed the robbery, stating that the investigation is ongoing to determine whether it was a case of hijacking or robbery.
Liberty News’ crime correspondent states that this marks another alarming incident on the Dhaka-Aricha highway, following similar cases on February 14 and December 20, raising concerns over passenger safety.
