Rezaul Karim Mallik has been removed from his post as the chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) and reassigned to DMP headquarters, according to an official order issued on Saturday.
Rezaul Karim Mallik, who served as the Additional Commissioner of DMP, has been relieved of his duties as the head of the Detective Branch (DB). The decision came through an order signed by DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali on April 12.
The order stated that Mallik has been attached to the DMP headquarters in the interest of administrative necessity. The reassignment takes immediate effect and will remain in place until further notice.
Mallik was appointed as the DB chief on September 1 last year, replacing Additional Commissioner Ashrafuzzaman, who had briefly held the position following the removal of Mohammad Harun Or Rashid in July 2023.
A 17th BCS cadre officer, Rezaul Karim Mallik joined the Bangladesh Police in 1998. Over the years, he has served in various key units, including the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The reshuffle marks yet another leadership change in the DMP’s Detective Branch within a short span, raising questions about internal dynamics within the force.
