The 2025 Ballon d’Or shortlist is out, and Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembele headlines the 30-man list after scoring 36 goals and providing 13 assists across competitions. He’s considered the front-runner to win the prestigious award for the first time.
Barcelona duo Lamine Yamal and Raphinha are strong contenders after helping the club win La Liga under Hansi Flick. Mohamed Salah, who won the Premier League with Liverpool, also makes the list alongside teammates Virgil van Dijk, Alexis Mac Allister, and Florian Wirtz.
In a major surprise, Scott McTominay is nominated for his performances with Serie A champions Napoli, becoming the first Scot on the shortlist since 1987, following his move from Manchester United last summer.
Erling Haaland is Manchester City’s sole representative after last year’s winner Rodri missed most of the season with injury. Arsenal duo Declan Rice and Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea’s Cole Palmer round out the Premier League’s presence.
Notably absent are legends Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, signaling a shift in global football’s elite.
The winner will be announced on 22 September in Paris, along with other major awards, including the Kopa Trophy, Yashin Trophy, and Gerd Müller Trophy.
