Dengue : Five more die, 668 hospitalised in 24hrs

Five more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Wednesday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 187 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 668 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 43,841 in 2025.

The fatalities included three women and two men.

Three deaths were reported in the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and two in the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 158 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 106 in Chattogram division, 126 in Dhaka division, 94 under DNCC, 73 under DSCC, 41 in Khulna division, 30 in Mymensingh division, 35 in Rajshahi division, and five in Rangpur division.

As of now, 60.5% men and 39.5% women have been infected with dengue from 1 January this year, the DGHS said.

Currently, 2,016 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.

According to the DGHS, there were 1,01,214 dengue cases and 1,00,040 recoveries in the same year.
