Dengue : Five more die in 24 hours

Five people died from dengue and 1,139 others were hospitalized in the 24 hours till Wednesday morning, according to an update released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This year’s total death toll has reached 323, while total hospitalisations have hit 81,773, 62% of whom are male patients.

October was the deadliest month this year with 80 fatalities, while 45 deaths have been reported so far this month.

Around 77,989 patients have recovered at hospitals across the country this year, and 3,784 are currently undergoing treatment.

In the 24 hours till 8am Wednesday, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) saw the most hospitalisations with 254 new patients. Dhaka North was followed by Dhaka Division, excluding city corporation areas, with 223 patients; Barishal Division, excluding city corporation areas, with 179 patients; Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) with 143 patients; and Chattogram Division, excluding city corporation areas, with 115 patients. The divisions of Khulna, Mymensingh and Rajshahi, excluding their city areas, recorded double-digit hospitalisations with 89, 82, and 46 patients, respectively.
