Dengue : Three more die, toll rises to 150 this year

Three more deaths were reported from dengue in the past 24 hours till Sunday morning, raising the number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh to 150 this year.

In the 24-hour span, 685 more patients were hospitalised with viral fever, raising the total caseload to 37,891 this year.

Among the fatalities – all women, two were reported under Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC), and one under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Of the latest cases, 125 were admitted to hospitals in Barishal division, 89 in Chattogram division, 122 in Dhaka division, 116 under DNCC, 128 under DSCC, 35 in Khulna division, 21 in Mymensingh division, 39 in Rajshahi division, and six in Rangpur division, and four in Sylhet division.

As of now, 60.1% men and 39.9% women have been infected with dengue from 1 January this year, the DGHS said.

Currently, 1,715 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country.

Last year, dengue claimed the lives of 575 people.

According to the DGHS, there were 1,01,214 dengue cases and 1,00,040 recoveries in the same year.
