Dhaka club organizers on Wednesday held a meeting followed by a press briefing, declaring that they do not recognize the recently concluded Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election. They also announced a boycott of all local leagues in Dhaka, as well as in districts and divisions.
Former national captain Tamim Iqbal, Major Imrose, former BCB director Rafiqul Islam Babu, Mohammedan councillor Masuduzzaman, and several other club organizers were present at the event.
“We won’t play,” announced Masuduzzaman in his speech on behalf of the clubs. “Not only in Dhaka, but at the district level as well, we are boycotting,” he added.
He further stated that he does not recognize newly elected BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul and therefore has no intention of sitting down or holding discussions with him, describing Bulbul as an “illegal president.”
“We have nothing to discuss. We are not recognizing the election. He is an illegal president,” he said. “How can he deny us as clubs or organizers?” he added.
Tamim also spoke to the media, questioning the election process and expressing confidence that he would have won had he contested.
“If I had contested, I would have won,” he said.
