A new initiative has been launched by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to control rickshaw movement on the city’s roads, with the installation of ‘Rickshaw Trappers’ designed to halt rickshaws at specific entry points.

In a bid to regulate rickshaw movement, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has introduced a new mechanism called the “Rickshaw Trapper.” These devices, which are being installed at key road entry points, are designed to block the wheels of rickshaws by catching them in iron spikes when they try to pass.

On Saturday, March 22, a trial run of the Rickshaw Trapper was conducted in front of Ramna Police Station on Shaheed Captain Monsur Ali Sarani. The traffic department has stated that if the device proves effective in the trial phase, it will be progressively installed on other roads across Dhaka.

Liberty News’ DMP’s Ramna Division Deputy Commissioner of Traffic, Mostafizur Rahman, shared with the media that this decision is part of the broader effort to limit rickshaw traffic on city streets. He emphasized that the trappers are being installed on an experimental basis, and their performance will be monitored before making any further decisions.
