A Dhaka court on Monday placed Deputy Registrar of Dhaka University, Muhammad Lavlu Mollah Shishir, on a three-day remand over allegations of financing the activities of banned Awami League.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order after a hearing.
Earlier, Lavlu was sent to jail on 18 November after being arrested in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
Before being arrested, Lavlu posted a photo on his Facebook profile with the caption: “Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu, I don’t care.”
Later on 2 December, police sought a seven-day remand for him. The remand petition stated that evidence had been found of his providing financial support for “flash processions” and cocktail explosions by the banned Chhatra League in the Shahbagh area.
The case under which Lavlu was placed on remand states that activists of the banned Awami League, Jubo League, Swechchhasebak League and the banned Chhatra League brought out a procession in the Paribagh area under Shahbagh Police Station on 31 May.
They allegedly chanted slogans to spread propaganda against the interim government. Sensing police presence, they fled the scene.
A case was filed on 1 June in connection with the incident.
