Dhaka University on Friday postponed the science unit admission test for the 2025–26 undergraduate programme, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, citing the observance of a day of national mourning.
The university administration announced the decision through a press release issued by the Public Relations Office at around 11:45am on Friday.
The press release said Dhaka University would observe a day of mourning on Saturday following the death of former student Sharif Osman Hadi, in line with the government’s declaration of national mourning.
“As a mark of respect to brave July fighter Sharif Osman Hadi and all July fighters and martyrs of the 2024 mass uprising, the science unit first-year undergraduate admission test for the 2025–26 academic year, scheduled for Saturday (December 20), has been postponed,” the release said.
The university said it would announce a revised schedule for the postponed admission test soon.
Earlier, at around 11:00am, Faculty of Science Dean Prof Dr Abdus Salam told The media that the university would announce a decision on the admission test shortly.
Sharif Osman bin Hadi, convener of Inqilab Monchoo and a former Dhaka University student, died on Thursday night while undergoing treatment in Singapore.
Following his death, Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, in a televised address to the nation on Thursday night, declared Saturday a day of national mourning.
The university authorities said they took the decision as holding the admission test on the day of national mourning would not be appropriate, given Hadi’s death and his association with the university.
