In Bauphal, Patuakhali, a 16-year-old disabled girl has been allegedly raped. The incident occurred on Friday in Kalaiya Union of the upazila. When the girl screamed, her mother rushed to the scene and protested, but she was also assaulted. A case has been filed at Bauphal Police Station regarding the incident.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bauphal Police Station, Md. Kamal Hossain, confirmed receiving the complaint.
According to sources, after the incident, the victim was taken to the upazila health complex and later referred to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for a medical examination.
The victim’s father filed a written complaint at Bauphal Police Station last night. In response, police have arrested a suspect named Hasan Howladar (30).
The victim’s family stated that the victim’s father is a day laborer by profession. The victim has been speech and intellectually impaired since childhood. The accused, Hasan, had been loitering around the victim for several days. On the day of the incident, around 11:00 AM, the victim’s mother went outside for household chores. Taking advantage of the situation, Hasan took the girl to a secluded area near the house and raped her. When the mother returned home, she heard her daughter screaming and rushed to the scene, where she found Hasan in a compromising position with the victim.
At that moment, Hasan fled the scene. When the mother confronted Hasan and his family about the incident, Hasan, along with some of his relatives, physically assaulted the victim’s mother and aunt.
Regarding the matter, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) of the Upazila Health Complex, Dr. Abdur Rauf, said that the girl was admitted to the emergency department of the Upazila Health Complex in the afternoon. She was later referred to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital for a physical examination.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bauphal Police Station, Md. Kamal Hossain, told Liberty News, “The father of the disabled girl filed a written complaint on Friday night. Based on the complaint, one person has been taken into police custody.” He added that the accused would be interrogated, and further legal action would be taken after analyzing the details of the case.
