The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a special appeal to refrain from blocking roads during protests and demonstrations, citing severe public inconvenience and disruption to emergency services.
In a press release signed by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of DMP’s Media Division, the police urged all individuals and organizations to avoid creating traffic obstacles in the name of protests or demands in the capital.
The statement, issued on Monday, highlighted that sudden and frequent road blockades have been causing massive traffic congestion. As a result, students, office-goers, and patients requiring emergency medical transport are facing extreme difficulties. Additionally, outbound travelers are being delayed, risking missed flights and appointments.
Despite continued efforts by the DMP’s traffic division to manage congestion, unplanned road obstructions have led to widespread public suffering.
“For the greater interest of city dwellers and to maintain smooth traffic management, we earnestly request everyone to refrain from unnecessary road blockades,” the DMP stated.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over spontaneous protests disrupting the already strained traffic system in Dhaka, one of the most densely populated cities in the world.
