Employees of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTC) have demanded the formulation of proper job regulations, highlighting issues of inequality and exploitation due to the absence of such rules. This demand was made in a press release issued on Thursday.
According to the statement, Dhaka Metro Rail, launched on December 28, 2022, has been a long-awaited transport solution for easing Dhaka’s traffic congestion. Currently, around 350,000 passengers travel daily on the MRT Line-6. Despite their relentless efforts to ensure safe and efficient operations, DMTC’s permanent employees, recruited through open competitive exams, have been facing severe disparities, favoritism, and injustice due to the lack of formal job regulations.
Liberty News’ national correspondent states that the organization, established in 2013, has yet to implement any comprehensive employment policies even after a decade. Employees argue that the absence of institutional rules is also hindering the improvement of passenger services to the desired standard.
