Dr. Yunus departs Qatar for Vatican to attend Pope’s funeral

Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus left Qatar for Vatican City on Friday to pay final respects to Pope Francis and attend the funeral ceremony scheduled for Saturday.

Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser, departed from Hamad International Airport in Doha at 12:25 PM (Bangladesh time) on Friday. He was seen off by Qatar’s Chief of Protocol, Ibrahim bin Yousuf Abdullah Fakhro. The adviser is expected to arrive in Rome at 2:15 PM local time, where Bangladesh’s ambassadors to Italy and the Vatican will receive him.

An hour after landing, Dr. Yunus will visit St. Peter’s Square at 3:15 PM to pay homage to the late Pope Francis. His Eminence Cardinal Mauro Gambetti, the Vicar General of Vatican City, is set to formally welcome Dr. Yunus and the Bangladeshi delegation at the site.

On Saturday morning at 9:30 AM local time, Dr. Yunus will return to St. Peter’s Square to attend the official funeral of the late Pope.

According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumdar, the adviser is expected to leave from Leonardo da Vinci Rome Fiumicino Airport on Sunday at 8:00 AM (Bangladesh time 12:00 PM) and arrive in Dhaka early Monday morning.
