Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, emphasized the challenges in building a new Bangladesh while addressing reforms aimed at restoring public trust. He made these remarks during his speech at the Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) Annual Conference in China.
In his speech on Thursday morning at the Boao Forum for Asia, held in Hainan Province, China, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s Interim Government, outlined several challenges facing the nation in its pursuit of a new Bangladesh. He noted that efforts have begun to initiate reforms aimed at restoring the public’s trust in governance.
Dr. Yunus also highlighted the existential threat posed to global civilization by climate change, stressing the need for financial assistance to combat its adverse impacts. He called for grant-based financial aid to help Bangladesh address these challenges and pointed out that the global community is witnessing the unity of the Bangladeshi people in their fight against corruption.
On financial cooperation, Dr. Yunus proposed the creation of a sustainable financing system for Asia, with regional multilateral development banks (MDBs) and similar institutions playing a leadership role in this effort.
Regarding food and agricultural cooperation, Dr. Yunus urged Asian nations to encourage resource-efficient agricultural practices and focus on increasing domestic food production to ensure food security. He emphasized the importance of reducing dependence on imports and achieving self-sufficiency.
Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent states that on the sidelines of the event, Dr. Yunus will hold his first bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing on Friday, where discussions will focus on bilateral interests. The following day, on March 29, Dr. Yunus is scheduled to deliver a lecture at Peking University, where he will be awarded an honorary doctorate. Dr. Yunus is expected to return to Bangladesh on March 29.
