In a notable diplomatic development, Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok, Thailand.
The bilateral meeting took place at the Shangri-La Hotel at 12:10 PM local time on Friday, April 4, as the summit approached its conclusion.
This marks the first formal interaction between Dr. Yunus and Prime Minister Modi since the former assumed responsibility as head of the interim government. Despite being a sideline engagement, the meeting has garnered significant attention from observers in both Bangladesh and India.
The two leaders were also seen exchanging pleasantries and engaging in a brief conversation during the official dinner on Thursday evening, ahead of their formal discussion on Friday.
Both Dr. Yunus and Prime Minister Modi are in Bangkok attending the high-level BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) summit, which is being held from April 2 to 4.
The ongoing summit brings together leaders from the Bay of Bengal region to discuss regional cooperation and integration.
