Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus has sent a letter to US President Donald Trump, urging a three-month suspension of the newly imposed 37% tariff on Bangladeshi products.

The letter, dispatched on Monday, emphasizes the adverse impact of the US tariff policy on Bangladesh’s exports and requests a reconsideration of the decision. Dr. Yunus highlighted various steps taken by the Bangladesh government to reduce the trade imbalance between the two nations.

According to the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing, the correspondence aims to initiate diplomatic dialogue amid escalating global concern over the Trump administration’s aggressive trade stance.

Earlier, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced that two letters would be sent to the United States — one by Dr. Yunus to President Trump and another by Trade Adviser Bashir Uddin to the US Trade Representative (USTR). Both letters are expected to reach their destinations within 48 hours.

President Trump’s tariff announcement on April 2 slapped a 37% duty on goods from Bangladesh, sparking concerns over its potential impact on the country’s economy.
