Dr. Yunus to meet Indian PM Modi today

Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi today (Friday, April 4) on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.

Chief Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam confirmed the meeting on Thursday (April 3), stating that it will be the first official meeting between the two leaders since Dr. Yunus assumed the role of Chief Advisor of Bangladesh’s interim government.

Speaking to the media, Shafiqul Alam said, “The heads of government of Bangladesh and India will meet tomorrow.”

On Thursday evening, during the BIMSTEC summit dinner, Dr. Yunus and Modi exchanged pleasantries and were seen engaged in a lengthy conversation, indicating a positive diplomatic tone ahead of today’s meeting.

Both leaders are currently in Bangkok for the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit, taking place from April 2 to 4.

In addition to Modi, Dr. Yunus is expected to hold bilateral meetings with other heads of government from BIMSTEC member countries throughout Friday (April 4).

Liberty News’ national affairs correspondent states that Dr. Yunus arrived in Bangkok on Thursday at 12 PM local time to attend the sixth BIMSTEC Summit. Earlier that day, he delivered a keynote speech at the BIMSTEC Young Generation Forum, emphasizing regional cooperation and youth leadership.
