Chief Adviser and Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Muhammad Yunus, has called for an expedited reform process in preparation for national elections expected between December this year and June 2026.
In a meeting held Saturday afternoon (April 12) at his official residence, Jamuna, Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus emphasized the urgency of advancing the ongoing reform initiatives. The directive came during a discussion with two members of the National Consensus Commission, Vice Chairman Professor Ali Riaz and member Dr. Badiul Alam Majumdar.
Also present at the meeting was Monir Haider, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on Consensus Building.
During the session, Professors Riaz and Majumdar briefed the Commission Chairman on the progress of current activities, noting that discussions are underway with various political parties based on the recommendations of multiple reform commissions. As of Saturday, consultations with eight political parties have been completed, with a scheduled meeting with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) set for the coming Thursday.
The commission members further stated that several public engagement initiatives have been launched to gauge public opinion on the reforms and to build awareness.
