Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus has assured the Asian Network for Free Elections (ANFREL) that Bangladesh will hold its most transparent and fair election between December 2025 and June 2026, marking a historic milestone in the country’s democratic journey.
During a meeting on Thursday at the state guest house Jamuna in Dhaka, Chief Adviser Dr. Yunus emphasized his commitment to conducting an election that would be a benchmark for democratic integrity in Bangladesh. “We aim to ensure this becomes the best election in the country’s history and a milestone in its democratic evolution,” he told the ANFREL delegation.
The ANFREL team included Executive Director Briza Rosales, Democracy Program Consultant May Butoy, Senior Program Officer for Campaign and Advocacy Tharindu Abeyrathna, Program Officer Ayan Rahman Khan, and Program Associate Afsana Amei.
According to Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Mozumder, who briefed the media, the meeting focused on reinforcing citizen-led election observation frameworks and enhancing transparency in the electoral process.
ANFREL, a regional civil society network dedicated to strengthening democratic electoral systems across Asia for over two decades, reiterated its commitment to collaborating with all stakeholders to support a credible election in Bangladesh.
The delegation expressed gratitude for the opportunity to meet the Chief Adviser and discussed strategies to expand civic engagement and promote electoral transparency through stakeholder mapping and needs assessments.
