BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas has accused the interim government of staging political theatrics under the guise of banning the Awami League, calling the moves “a replay of past injustices.”

Speaking at a memorial for late BNP leader Nasiruddin Pintu at the National Press Club on Monday, Mirza Abbas criticized the government for rehabilitating those who persecuted his party over the past 17 years. “Those who once oppressed BNP are now being restored to power—yet the same regime labels us as violent,” he said.

Abbas also questioned the circumstances of former President Abdul Hamid’s VIP exit from the country. “He left under special treatment, yet the government claims ignorance. Do they really not know?” he challenged.

He accused the administration of deliberately excluding BNP supporters from key posts while allowing unelected advisors to steer national policy. “It feels like colonial rule,” he remarked, lamenting that decisions such as the proposed humanitarian corridor with Myanmar were made without public consent.

Turning to Islamic parties, Abbas warned Jamaat and others against silence on critical national issues such as the St. Martin’s and Sajek development projects. “No corridor can bypass the will of the people,” he insisted.

“The government’s deliberate misdeeds reveal a lack of patriotism,” he concluded. “Unless BNP is crushed, the ruling party cannot plunder the nation unchecked.”

The event was organized by the Pintu Memorial Council, chaired by Said Hassan Mintoo, and attended by religious leader Maulana Shah Mohammad Nesarul Haque among others.
