Police arrested a drug peddler with 1,573 pieces of Yaba pills at Nalitabari upazila in Sherpur district on Wednesday.
The arrest was made at Burunga Porabari area under Poraogaon union in the upazila.
The arrested was Abdul Halim, a resident of Ghonapara village under Nayabil union in the upazila.
According to police, Majam Ali alias Choto Majam, son of Yusuf from Burunga Porabari village under Poraogaon union had been involved in drug trafficking for a long time with his associate Abdul Halim.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Nalitabari Police Station conducted a raid at Majam Ali’s residence. During the raid, they recovered and seized a packet containing 1,573 Yaba pills hidden inside the house.
Upon sensing the presence of police the accused Majam Ali somehow managed to flee the scene but his accomplice Halim was arrested.
Confirming the matter, Nalitabari Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Sohel Rana said that a case has been filed against the accused and he was sent to Sherpur court on Thursday afternoon.
Operations are ongoing to arrest the absconding Majam Ali the OC added.
