Dhaka University (DU) has suspended all classes and examinations scheduled for Sunday following new student injuries and heightened panic on campus after two more earthquakes struck the capital on Saturday evening.
In an urgent notice issued by the Office of the Controller of Examinations on Saturday night, the university said all internal classes and exams for Sunday have been postponed due to the injuries and the prevailing fear among teachers and students.
The revised schedule for the postponed exams will be announced later.
The notification, signed by Acting Controller of Examinations Dr Himadri Shekhar Chakraborty, said the university administration is closely monitoring the situation, with student safety as its top priority.
Notably, six students, including five female students, were injured in Saturday’s tremor, after a stronger earthquake on Friday caused cracks in multiple halls and academic buildings, leaving at least 22 students injured and triggering widespread concern across campus.
The latest injuries have heightened anxiety among students, many of whom remain fearful of staying in older and vulnerable residential halls.
DU authorities have begun inspecting high-risk buildings as precautionary measures continue.
