The University of Dhaka (DU) will rehold the 2024-25 undergraduate first-year admission test for the ‘Business Studies’ unit, but only for those who participated in the initial exam.

The central admission committee of Dhaka University (DU) has decided to reconduct the Business Studies unit admission test for the 2024-25 academic year. However, only students who previously sat for the exam will be eligible to participate in the retake. The decision was made in a meeting held on Sunday, though the exact date of the exam is yet to be announced. Several committee members confirmed the development.

According to meeting sources, most faculty members supported the decision to rehold the exam. Some advocated for appealing against the High Court’s ruling, but a unanimous preliminary decision favored a retake.

A committee member stated that the university will inform the High Court about its plan to reconduct the test. “The method will depend on the court’s ruling. The university proposes that only the 27,000+ candidates who participated in the initial exam will be allowed to sit again. Arts and Science unit candidates will not need to retake their exams,” the member added.

Previously, the Business Studies unit admission test was held on February 8. As per university sources, 41,008 candidates applied for 1,050 seats in this unit. Among these, 930 seats were allocated for Business Studies students, 95 for Science students, and 25 for Humanities students. A total of 29,510 Business Studies students, 6,583 Science students, and 4,914 Humanities students applied for the exam.

The retake decision follows a petition by candidate Jihan Al Fuad, who alleged multiple errors in the question paper. After receiving no response from the authorities, he filed a writ petition in the High Court, questioning the administration’s inaction and seeking intervention. The petition also requested a stay on further proceedings until the matter was resolved.

Liberty News’ campus correspondent states that on March 20, Dhaka University announced that the results of the Business Studies unit exam would be published on March 21 at 5 p.m. However, following the High Court’s intervention, the result publication was postponed.
