A Dhaka court on Wednesday denied the bail plea of Jalal Ahmad Jalal, the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) vice-president candidate (independent), in an attempted murder case of his roommate.

‎Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sefatullah passed the order, confirmed by State Prosecutor Syed Golam Mortuza.

Golam Mortuza said, “We told the court if Jalal’s bail plea is approved, it will create chaos among the Dhaka University and DUCSU election. The court, after hearing, cancelled his bail petition.”

‎According to the case statements, on 26 August, Rabiul, a student from the Department of Political Science, went to his room around midnight and fell asleep.

‎Then, Jalal entered the room, turned on the electric light, and started dragging a chair, making a noise that woke Rabiul up.
‎He then said to Jalal that he had to go to the library in the morning and asked to keep the noise down, which enraged Jalal.

‎At one point, Jalal allegedly struck Rabiul on the head with a wooden chair with the intent to kill. Jalal then attempted to attack Rabiul’s head with an old tube light from the room, which hit the left side of his chest and caused injuries.

‎Hall Provost Dr Md Sirajul Islam announced Jalal’s expulsion from the dormitory in an immediate response and then filed an attempted murder case with Shahbagh Police Station on that day.
