The Election Commission (EC) has received a copy of the court order regarding the swearing-in of BNP leader Ishraque Hossain as Mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

The order is expected to be formally presented at the Commission on Monday, according to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday (June 1), Akhtar Ahmed confirmed the development, stating, “We have received the court’s order concerning Ishraque Hossain. The Commission will now take necessary measures. Once we receive directives from the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), the matter will be formally tabled. Depending on the CEC’s instructions, the Secretariat may either present the file directly or the issue may be discussed in a full Commission meeting.”

He further noted that the EC is prepared to act in accordance with the court’s observations and directives regarding Ishraque’s oath-taking.

Officials of EC have indicated that a meeting is scheduled for Monday to review the court’s decision. A formal stance on the matter may be announced following that discussion.

On May 29, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court disposed of a petition that sought to block Ishraque Hossain’s oath, clearing the way for him to assume office.
