The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has greenlit 13 significant projects, with a total estimated cost of Tk 12,532.28 crore, covering a wide range of sectors including gas exploration, education, and infrastructure.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a series of 13 major projects, including the drilling of gas wells, during its meeting on Sunday, February 2. The total cost for these projects is projected at Tk 12,532.28 crore, with Tk 4,972.3 crore sourced from government funds, Tk 7,328.95 crore from project loan assistance, and Tk 1,106.10 crore from the respective implementing agencies.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, took place at the NEC conference room in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, Dhaka. Following the meeting, Education and Planning Advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud provided a briefing to the media. Other key officials, including Planning Secretary Iqbal Abdullah Harun, Industry and Energy Division member Mostafizur Rahman, and several other members were present.
Among the approved projects are notable initiatives such as:
The North Kattali Catchment Project in Chittagong Metropolitan City.
Mongla Port Expansion and Development.
A project aimed at improving seed production for paddy, wheat, and maize.
The modernization of the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation’s (BADC) seed production and distribution systems.
The Food Safety Testing Capacity Enhancement Project.
Drilling of four appraisal-cum-development wells in Titas and Kamta gas fields.
A 3-D seismic survey in Habiganj, Bakhrabad, and Meghna fields.
Sylhet-12 Well Drilling Project.
Ghorashal IV Unit Re-Powering Project.
A project for the development of Chittagong’s power distribution system.
The improvement of migration management and sustainable reintegration systems.
Infrastructure development of government primary schools in Dhaka and Purbachal, alongside a project for digital labs in educational institutions.
Additionally, one project extension was approved: the Narayanganj City Corporation Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Management Project (Fourth Extension).
Further, ECNEC reviewed four projects for informational purposes, including initiatives focused on livestock department capacity building, aquatic ecosystem conservation, char development and settlement, and the conservation of Old Dhaka’s central jail.
