The curtain of the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 will rise on 17 December this year, instead of the traditional start in February.
The month-long festival of books will continue until 17 January next year.
This decision was made on Thursday at a meeting held at the Bangla Academy with Cultural Affairs Secretary Md Mofidur Rahman in the chair.
The fair’s date has been set considering the upcoming parliamentary election scheduled for February 2026, and the holy month of Ramadan, which will also begin that month, according to the meeting.
Bangla Academy Director General Prof Mohammad Azam, secretary, directors, and representatives from the Bangladesh Pustak Prokashok O Bikreta Samity, an association of book publishers and sellers, were present at the meeting.
