Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar has said that the interim government has taken full preparations to hold 13th national parliamentary election in a fair and peaceful environment.
He also said the election will be held in the first half of February, and the government is firmly committed to conducting it in a transparent manner.
EC Anwarul made the remarks on Saturday while inaugurating a daylong workshop titled “Identifying challenges and overcoming obstacles in performing duties of polling officials” at Kuakata in Patuakhali.
“The election will be held according to the decisions of the government and the Election Commission,” Anwarul Islam said, adding that various types of propaganda are being spread on social media but there is no reason for concern.
He stressed that the nation’s wellbeing depends on the Election Commission’s sincerity. “If every presiding officer leads responsibly at their centre, there will be no barrier to holding a free, fair and impartial election anywhere in the country,” he said.
Regional Election Officer of Barishal Md Faridul Islam presided over the workshop, while Senior Secretary of the Election Commission Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed, Patuakhali Deputy Commissioner Dr Mohammad Shahid Hossain Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police Apu Sarwar, and Deputy Chief of the EC Secretariat Muhammad Mostafa Hasan attended as special guests.
Around 60 officials from various government departments and election offices of Patuakhali’s eight upazilas took part in the event.
