Ten army officers were brought to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today as it is set to hold charge framing hearing in a case over enforced disappearances allegedly committed under the Hasina-led administration.
They were brought to the court premises in a green, air-conditioned prison van around 9:15am before being taken to the ICT lockup, amid tight security.
They were seen getting off the van around 10:23am.
The tribunal is scheduled to hold a hearing on charge framing against 17 accused in the case, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former prime minister’s military adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique.
According to the prosecution, the case involves enforced disappearances linked to the Task Force for Interrogation (TFI) Cell, run under the Rapid Action Battalion. The charges state that at least 14 individuals were secretly detained and tortured there between 2016 and 2024.
Of the 17 accused, the 10 former Rab officials — all from the army — is supposed to be produced before the court today.
They are Brig Gen Md Qamrul Hasan, Brig Gen Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, Brig Gen Md Mahbub Alam, Brig Gen Md Jahangir Alam, Col AKM Azad, Col Abdullah Al Momen, Col Md Sarwar Bin Kashem, Col Anowar Latif Khan, Lt Col Md Moshiur Rahman Jewel, and Lt Col Md Saiful Islam Sumon.
Members of the army, Rab, BGB, and police have been deployed at the court premises.
