England were bowled out for just 179 runs in their final group-stage match against South Africa in the Champions Trophy. Despite a spirited effort, the team couldn’t withstand South Africa’s bowlers and were dismissed in just 38.2 overs.

In a match where England’s exit from the tournament had already been confirmed due to losses in their first two games, they were unable to put up a challenging total against South Africa. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, England’s aggressive approach soon fell apart as wickets fell regularly. The innings, which had a rocky start, couldn’t recover, and they were all out before reaching the 40th over.

Joe Root was the top scorer for England with 37 runs off 44 balls, including 4 fours and a six. Jofra Archer contributed 25 runs from 31 balls, while Ben Duckett made 24 runs. Captain Jos Buttler also chipped in with 21 runs. However, the South African bowlers, particularly Marco Jansen and Wiaan Mulder, dominated with three wickets each, while Keshav Maharaj took two.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states that with 179 all out, England was left with no chance to challenge South Africa effectively in this inconsequential encounter.
