The foreign ministers of Germany, France, and Britain are set to meet their Iranian counterpart on Friday in Geneva, according to a German diplomatic source. The talks will begin with a meeting alongside the European Union’s top diplomat, Kaja Kallas, at Germany’s permanent mission before a joint session with Iran’s foreign minister.

This diplomatic initiative comes amid growing fears of escalating conflict in the Middle East following recent Israeli military strikes on Iran and retaliatory missile attacks from Tehran. The United States, Israel’s ally, has yet to confirm its involvement in the campaign, raising concerns about further escalation.

The goal of the talks, coordinated with the United States, is to secure Iran’s firm commitment to use its nuclear program exclusively for peaceful purposes. A structured expert-level dialogue is expected to follow.

Israel has declared its aim to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons, a claim Iran denies, insisting its nuclear activities are civilian. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has expressed support for Israel’s actions and warned Iran to de-escalate or face greater destruction.
