A Manikganj court on Sunday sent former Awami League MP Momtaz Begum to jail after her six-day remand ended in connection with two separate cases, including a 2013 murder and police station attack.

Manikganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Ivy Akhter passed the order when Momtaz was produced before the court under heavy security, said Md Abul Khayer, inspector of the Manikganj court. She will now be transferred to Kashimpur Jail.

Two cases—one filed with the Singapore Police Station and the other with Harirampur Police Station—led to her remand and subsequent imprisonment.

On May 22, Momtaz was placed on a four-day remand in a murder case linked to a hartal procession in Gobindal, Singair upazila in 2013, where four people were killed. The case was filed on October 25, 2024, by resident Md Majnu Molla.

Later that same day, she was remanded for two more days in a separate case filed by BNP Harirampur upazila unit’s Organising Secretary, Delwar Hossain. The case, filed on October 30, 2024, accuses Momtaz of involvement in an attack and vandalism at Harirampur Police Station.

Court sources confirmed both remands concluded Sunday, prompting her formal detention.
