The banned Bangladesh Chhatra League’s former vice-president, Rakib Hossain, was arrested at Dhaka University (DU) on Sunday afternoon.
The proctorial team detained him from a room of the Administrative Building and handed him over to Shahbagh Police Station.
Rakib, a student of the 2009-10 session at the Department of Islamic History and Culture and a former resident of Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, admitted to reporters that he came to the campus to collect money from university contractors.
He reportedly attempted to hide in a toilet when the proctorial team arrived, but was later caught and taken into custody.
Confirming the arrest, DU Proctor Associate Professor Saifuddin Ahmed said, “Rakib was sued earlier in connection with an attack on Chhatra Dal activists in the capital. When he came to the campus today, students informed the proctorial team, and he was subsequently handed over to the police.”
Students alleged that Rakib along with other Chhatra League men was directly involved in the 2022 attack on Chhatra Dal activists on the High Court premises.
