Ex-IGP Mamun and Salman F Rahman remanded again

Salman F Rahman, Sheikh Hasina’s former adviser of private industry and investment, and Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, the former inspector general of police (IGP), have been placed on five days of remand by a Dhaka court in relation to Jisan’s murder during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in the Jatrabari neighborhood of the capital.

A 10-day remand (five days in each of two murder cases) has also been imposed on former law minister Anisul Huq, former information minister and Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu, and Workers’ Party President Rashed Khan Menon in connection with the murders of Jisan and Mehedi Hasan.

Jisan was slain on July 20 during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Matuail, which was within the jurisdiction of the Jatrabari Police Station, according to the First Information Report (FIR). He was shot by the accused while taking part in the movement, according to protesters.

According to testimonies and witnesses, Mehedi was hurt by gunshots from Awami League members and police. Around six o’clock that same day, he passed away from his wounds despite being taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The events have garnered a lot of public attention, and demands have been made for an open investigation into the use of force during the demonstrations. As investigations continue, Liberty News’ political correspondesnt reports that more hearings are anticipated.
