Former State Minister for Power and Energy Nasrul Hamid Bipu’s family business has been linked to the family of Syeda Rizwana Hasan, adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and the Ministry of Water Resources.
The claim surfaced in a Facebook post by journalist Zulkarnain Saer where he cited relevant records and media reports.
Hamid Sweater Ltd, a company once owned by Bipu and his family, is now officially registered under Abu Bakar Siddique and his son, Ahmed Zarir Siddique. They are respectively the husband and son of Adviser Rizwana.
Records show Bipu himself was a shareholder of the company until 2012, while his brother, Entekhabul Hamid, and his son, Zarif Hamid, retained ownership until 2021. All of these shares were later transferred to the Siddique family.
However, insiders from Hamid Group, the family conglomerate, alleged the transfer was cosmetic. They said Bipu’s family continued to control operations, pointing to BGMEA and other trade directories that still list Entekhabul as managing director. The Hamid Group website also named the sweater company as part of its portfolio until 5 August, 2024.
The development comes as fresh reports allege Bipu owns assets in at least 16 countries. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said Tk 3,181 crore in suspicious transactions was detected in 98 bank accounts linked to him. A Banglanews24 investigation further claimed that between August 2024 and March 2025, the former minister siphoned off around Tk 1,000 crore abroad from undeclared assets.
The revelations have intensified debate over corruption and the overlap of politics and business in Bangladesh.
