A Dhaka court has granted a four-day remand for former Member of Parliament Momtaz Begum in connection with the murder case of Sagor during the anti-discrimination student movement in Mirpur.

On Tuesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Jewel Rana approved the remand after hearing both parties. The investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Monirul Islam of Mirpur Model Police Station, sought a seven-day remand, while the defense filed for bail and appealed to cancel the remand petition. Public Prosecutor Omar Faruk Faruki argued in favor of remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted a four-day remand.

Momtaz Begum was arrested from Dhanmondi around 11:45 PM the night before. She is the 49th named accused in the case.

According to case details, on July 19 last year, Md. Sagor was shot during a protest organized by students and citizens demanding an end to discrimination at the Mirpur-10 roundabout. The bullet pierced his chest and exited from the back, causing his death. On November 27, 2024, Sagor’s mother, Beauty Akter, filed a case at Mirpur Model Police Station, naming 243 individuals, including Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The complaint also listed 250–400 unidentified individuals as accused.
