A Narayanganj court has granted a 2-day remand for Dr. Selina Hayat Ivy, former mayor of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and former vice president of district Awami League, in connection with the murder case of Minarul of Siddhirganj upazila in Narayanganj district.

On Sunday afternoon, during a hearing at court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Noor Mohsin, police requested a 7-day remand. After the hearing, the court granted a 2-day remand.

Former mayor Ivy appeared virtually from Kashimpur Jail during the hearing.

The prosecution was represented by acting Public Prosecutor (PP) of district court, Advocate Omar Faruk Nayan, along with lawyers affiliated with BNP.

Ivy was represented by Advocate Awlad Hossain, Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Masum, Advocate Siddiqur Rahman and several others during the court proceedings.

Acting PP Omar Faruk Nayan said that the investigation officer requested a 7-day remand, but the court approved only 2 days. He expressed hope that the remand would help uncover how Minarul was killed through a cocktail explosion.

On the other hand, Ivy’s lawyer Advocate Awlad Hossain said that the post-mortem report submitted in court indicated that Minarul had died in a road accident. He alleged that Ivy was being deliberately implicated in the case. Despite opposing the remand, the court granted it.

Advocate Mahbubur Rahman Masum, another of Ivy’s lawyers, said that Ivy had criticized the government during the recent anti-discrimination student movement, and she has no involvement in this case.

Earlier, on May 9, Ivy was shown arrested in connection with Minarul murder case.

She is facing a total of five cases, including charges of murder and explosives-related offenses.
