For their alleged roles in an attack on anti-discrimination students during the recent public movement in Kishoreganj, former president Abdul Hamid, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 122 other people are facing charges.
According to Abdullah Al Mamun, the police station’s officer-in-charge, Tohmul Islam Mazharul, 27, of Kishoreganj Sadar, filed the case with the Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station yesterday afternoon.
It is claimed that those accused in Kishoreganj supplied firearms, local weapons, and funds to suppress the protests and ordered the massacre. The incident reportedly occurred on August 4 last year at noon when the plaintiff Tohmul and several others joined the student-led protest.
Tohmul, who identifies as a BNP worker, said that he was among those injured during the protest. He cited delays in filing the case as he was preoccupied with medical treatment.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station, said, “The case will be investigated and appropriate legal action will be taken.”
Liberty News has observed that cases against leaders and politicians of the former government and Awami League are being filed en-masse. This issue has been raised several times by reporters to high officials such as the Home Advisor, Law Advisor and IGP.
