In a sensational case of the murder of Jamaat leader Md. Saiful Islam in Meherpur and in the case of an attack on the anti-discrimination student movement, former Minister of Public Administration and President of Meherpur District Awami League, Farhad Hossain, has been granted a two-day remand by the court at the jail gate.
On Thursday morning (January 30), the former minister was brought to court from Meherpur jail. When he appeared before the Senior Judicial Magistrate’s Court of the district, Judge Begum Sharmin Nahar granted his two-day remand.
On this day in the morning, Farhad Hossain and his brother Sarfaraz Hossain Mridul were taken to court from Meherpur District Jail. In connection with the case, the public prosecutor (PP) Abu Saleh Mohammad Nashim applied for a 7-day remand for interrogation. However, the court granted a two-day remand in the case of Jamaat leader Tariq Mohammad Saiful Islam’s murder case and ordered questioning at Meherpur Jail gate.
Earlier, on Wednesday night around 8:30 PM, he was transferred from Dhaka to Meherpur District Jail. Farhad Hossain was brought to the jail under strict security in a prison van via road. During this time, additional police forces were deployed throughout the jail area and the city. Meanwhile, police patrols were intensified around the district jail and its surroundings. Security was also heightened throughout the city when he was taken to court.
It is worth mentioning that on the night of September 14, he was arrested by RAB from the Eskaton area in the capital. After the political change on August 5, several cases were filed against him in Meherpur district, including the sensational murder of Jamaat leader Tariq Mohammad Saiful Islam and the cases from July and August.
Liberty News’ court correspondent reports that Farhad Hossain was elected as a Member of Parliament from the Meherpur-1 (Sadar and Mujibnagar) constituency in the 10th National Parliament election. In the 12th National Parliament election, he served as the Minister of the Ministry of Public Administration. Prior to that, he had served as the State Minister of the same ministry.
