The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) on Monday granted permission to interrogate three death-row former RAB officials in connection with the 2014 Narayanganj seven-murder case, allowing investigators to probe the alleged involvement of former RAB top officer Ziaul Ahsan.

The tribunal, led by Chairman Justice Md Golam Mortuza, passed the order in response to a petition filed by Chief Prosecutor Advocate Muhammad Tajul Islam. The three officials—Lt Col Tarek Sayeed Mohammad, Major Arif Hossain, and Lt Commander MM Rana—are currently in prison.

The ICT order allows its investigation agency to interrogate the convicts inside jail at a time of their convenience.

Advocate Tajul Islam told the court that new findings suggest the possible role of Ziaul Ahsan, who was RAB’s additional director general (operations) during the incident and is now in custody over separate enforced disappearance cases.

He noted that the three former officers served under Ziaul’s command during their time at the elite force and may hold critical information.

The brutal abduction and murder of seven individuals, including Narayanganj councillor Nazrul Islam and lawyer Chandan Sarker, shocked the nation in 2014. All victims were kidnapped on April 27 and later found dead—blindfolded, their bodies stuffed into sacks and dumped into the Shitalakkhya River.

In 2017, a Narayanganj court sentenced 26 individuals, including three senior RAB officials, to death. The High Court later upheld the death penalty for 15 of them, including the three now being questioned.
