A woman was found strangled to death in her home in Rajbari, with allegations that money was looted after the killing. Police recovered her body early Tuesday from Hauli Jaipur village in Barat Union under Sadar Upazila.
The victim, 25-year-old Salma Khatun, was the wife of Azad Mallik, a Saudi Arabia-based expatriate. She left behind two children—six-year-old Sadik and four-and-a-half-year-old Sinha.
According to Salma’s mother-in-law, Lata Begum, she went to wake her grandson early in the morning and found the bedroom door locked from the outside. Upon opening it, she discovered Salma’s lifeless body on the bed, covered with a quilt, her neck tightly wrapped with a scarf, while her children sat beside her.
Lata Begum claimed that before Eid, her son had sent over one lakh taka from Saudi Arabia, which was withdrawn from the bank and kept at home. The money, along with Salma’s nose ring, was missing after the incident.
Salma’s father, Salam Sheikh, who lives just 100 yards away, expressed his grief, stating, “She had no disputes with anyone. I don’t know who did this or why. I just want justice for my daughter.”
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Mahmudur Rahman confirmed that the body had been sent for autopsy and that police are investigating to identify and arrest those involved.
