BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of leading a two-day massacre at Pilkhana, where 57 army officers were killed in 2009.
On February 25, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir accused former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina of being responsible for the massacre that took place at Pilkhana in 2009. Addressing the media after paying respects at the graves of the fallen military officers on National Shaheed Sena Day at Banani Military Graveyard, he stated that under Sheikh Hasina’s leadership, a two-day killing spree occurred at Pilkhana, leading to the deaths of 57 brave military personnel. According to Fakhrul, the intention of those responsible was to destabilize the country’s security apparatus.
Fakhrul also mentioned that this day marked a tragic event for the army, calling it a ‘black day.’ He expressed his gratitude to the government for declaring February 25 as National Shaheed Sena Day, while also offering his condolences to the families of the slain soldiers.
Following the ceremony, Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Homeland Security Advisor, and heads of the Army, Navy, and Air Force also paid tributes to the fallen officers by laying wreaths at their graves.
Liberty News’ political correspondent states that it was on February 25 and 26, 2009, during a mutiny by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), then known as BDR, that 74 people, including 57 military officers and the BDR Director General Major General Shakil Ahmed, were killed. The government recently declared February 25 as National Shaheed Sena Day, marking the day as a state observance for the first time.
