BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir asserted that the destiny of Bangladesh will be determined by its citizens—not by foreign powers such as India, the US, or China.
Addressing a program at North South University in the capital on Saturday afternoon, Mirza Fakhrul emphasized that national sovereignty and democratic rights must be preserved through unity and people’s participation.
“We hope the interim government succeeds, but protecting democracy and the nation’s interest requires collective unity,” he said.
Drawing a parallel to the 1971 Liberation War, the BNP leader remarked, “Despite differences, the people stood united in 1971. Similarly, in 2024, the nation is coming together to fight for democracy.”
He stressed that democracy cannot be imposed by external forces and must emerge from the will of the people. “There is no alternative to democracy,” Fakhrul added, underscoring the importance of homegrown solutions over foreign interference.
