BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called for justice over the alleged custodial death of Jubo Dal leader Towhidul Islam in Comilla, accusing the authorities of extrajudicial killing.

Mirza Fakhrul posted a demand for justice on his verified Facebook page on Saturday morning, sharing a photo card with the message: “Jubo Dal leader Towhidul Islam Hottar Bichar Chai” (We demand justice for the murder of Jubo Dal leader Towhidul Islam).

Towhidul, 40, was the convener of Panchthuri Union Jubo Dal in Comilla Sadar Upazila. He was allegedly taken from his home by joint forces early Friday morning and later died at Comilla Medical College Hospital. His family claims he was tortured to death, as doctors reportedly found injury marks on his body.

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has strongly condemned the incident, blaming the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government. He said the killing mirrored past extrajudicial actions under the Awami League government and raised concerns over increasing human rights violations.

Speaking at a political gathering in Nayapaltan, Rizvi questioned how such incidents could happen under a government that had been backed by Western human rights organizations. He warned that if such oppression continues, the sacrifices of past political movements will be meaningless.

Liberty News’ political correspondent states BNP leaders have vowed to continue their fight for justice, holding the authorities responsible for Towhidul’s death.
