BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday expressed hope that the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government would fulfil the promises made to the people.

“The 15-year struggle for voting rights and basic needs must be realized,” Fakhrul said while speaking to reporters after paying tribute at the grave of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

He also prayed for those who had lost their lives in past pro-democracy movements and wished for a joyous Eid celebration for all.

“This Eid feels different from the past 15 years as people can now celebrate in a freer environment,” Fakhrul added, expressing hopes for the return of BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

Other senior BNP leaders, including National Standing Committee members Mirza Abbas and Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, along with activists, were present at the event.
