BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that the country’s political, economic, and social situation could deteriorate further if elections are not held by December.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday following a nearly two-hour meeting with the Chief Advisor of the interim government, Fakhrul expressed deep dissatisfaction over the proposed election timeframe extending from December to June.

“We have made it clear—if the election is not held within December, the situation in the country will worsen across all sectors,” said the BNP leader, emphasizing the urgency of a timely, credible election.

During the meeting held at the state guest house Jamuna, BNP representatives urged for a specific electoral roadmap and a concrete date for polls. However, according to Fakhrul, the Chief Adviser refrained from providing any firm deadline, leaving the BNP delegation disappointed.

Fakhrul stressed that the BNP is seeking a swift and acceptable electoral process, reiterating that uncertainty only deepens the crisis. “There is no room for ambiguity now—the nation needs a clear path forward,” he added.
